Performance Plus Real Street FINAL STANDINGS 2016

For the final Performance Plus Street Legal Drags at SIR we were greeted with a decent fall day to finish off our season. We had a good turn out of 78 cars and the Top Ten and Real Street classes had their run offs. Skippy sprayed the track so the racers got a little bit extra traction and with the cool fall air pretty much everyone were having their quickest and fastest times of the year. Jack Neufeld was running his Hellcat and he has set his as the Hellcat to beat at 11.01, sorry no ten yet buddy. The Real Street cars also had a run off for their positions after participating in our cruise to the track from Performance Plus. It was Marlin and his 1934 Ford with yes, a stroker Chevy in it... sigh , coming out on top in the #1 position. He went 3 for 3 in his races running low 11.50's and Taylor would have had a great shot at being #1 but kept going faster than the 11.50 index which is the cut off for Real Street. Janssen brought his Camaro down from Rosetown to show that it is for out of town racers also. Calvin brought his Satellite and in the first round race he went out with a suspension problem which is too bad as in his second test pass he ran a perfect 11.50 and would have been the guy to beat. Scott was having a busy day as he is our only guy running both Top Ten and Real Street and he had his hands full trying to figure out where to slow his car down to stay on the good side of the 11.50 roll bar rule. Then there are the Lund's giving the only showing for the new performance cars with their 2015 Charger Hellcat running on factory rubber and having dipped into the 11's. They have taken turns each running the car this season and Tamara having run the quickest pass so they earned 2 spots on the list. We also had Curtis Knops have some fun runs against the Real Street competitors but as he hadn't made the 4 race minimum they don't figure into the list. So this is how the Real Street List will sit after our 1st season.

#1Marlin Krieger

#2 Scott Gerhardt

#3 Taylor Jacek

#4 Calvin Gordon

#5 Janssen Aten

#6 Tamara Lund

#7 Glen Lund

We will have 3 open spots to fill for next years racing and we are hoping to have a lot more people to run in the Real Street class for next year. There are so many of you guys out there that regularly drive your 11.50 and up cars and also run at SIR in our Street Legal races that would easily qualify to run in this. So if you are interested in running some heads up Pro Tree racing we hope to see you next year. I will have a couple of very enthusiastic helpers next year and hope to expand the program with some incentives. So Thanks to all of you racers for coming out and using our facility and have a great winter and see you next year. Performance Plus and the Street Legal committee found it a pleasure to serve you.

Our 12th Performance Plus Street Legal drags was not met with the best weather as it rained in the morning and was very overcast and as I made my way out to the track it sprinkled a few times. Nonetheless 63 brave souls brought their cars out and we only ended up with one short rain delay. I have come to the conclusion that Saskatchewan has more Hellcats per capita than any province or state as I have seen 8 different Hellcat Challengers and at least 3 Hellcat Chargers at our track this summer. This what I like to see these people bringing their performance cars to the track and using them for what they were intended for. We had lots of factory performance cars this year with lots of Mustangs, Camaro's, BMW's, Audi's Subaru's and you name it. I would also like to mention at this point that one of our regular racers Jack Neufeld with his Challenger Hellcat ran a 11.07 at 130mph which would make him a candidate for our Top Ten list with a factory car. With our collection of both old and new cars there is always plenty to see. As we wind down for the year here is how the Real Street list sits.

#1 TJ Friesen                    #6 Brian Vickers

#2 Tyler Smith                   #7 Scott Gerhardt

#3 Chris Spence                #8 Curtis Knops

#4 Taylor Jacek                 #9 Marlin Krieger

#5 Calvin Gordon              #10 Shane Kolenosky

The above list is the people that have made the quickest ET's this season but once again if you haven't run at least 4 races and don't participate in our drive out to the track that will take place Sunday morning from the Performance Plus store you won't be eligible for a position. So basically if you have run in 4 races and have been on the list and run 11.50 and up you could be on this list. As there was so many different people that run at our events I have compiled a partial list of those that have been on the list this summer. So looking forward to seeing Tyler Smith, Kylee Montour, Marlin Krieger, Glen Lund, Scott Gerhardt, Janssen Atten, Taylor Jacek, Calvin Gordon and the other qualified participants that make our Street Legal program so successful. We will be meeting at Performance Plus at 10:30 or before and leaving shortly after so make sure you are there a little early. Thanks again from Performance Plus and the Street Legal committee for coming out.

It is impressive to see how many quick cars that are running out here at our track and it was great to see so many cars out here. We had a great mix of old cars and new and 3 Challenger Hellcats were out and the quickest one was Jack Neufelds who ran 11.40 at 127mph. Tyler Jacek was nudged out of the List but only need a little bit and will be right back on. Once again Performance Plus and the Street Legal committee would like to thank all of the racers and fans for coming out and supporting our program. hope to see you all next time.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten Aug 5, 2016

For The 9th Performance Plus Street Legal drags we had a busy night with a lot of cars taking their turn at the quarter mile. We had over 80 cars running and over 400 people watching the action. Not to many changes on the Real Street List this time. There was one big change as Jason Chilliak moves off the list as I didn't realize that even though his car is street legal he was running without exhaust so good news for Tyler you are back to your #1 spot, not all bad news for Jason though as he ran a super 10.27 at 133 so I would suggest hanging some exhaust on that beast and shake up those Top Ten list guys. Cal Gordon with his Satellite improved to a 11.86 and made a move up the list. I would also like to mention that Taylor Jacek driving his Dad's Trans Am moved up to #6 on the list and is the youngest driver presently on the list at 16 years old. Very impressive. So this is how it sorts out..

#1 Tyler Smith   11.52
#2 Chris Spence   11.54
#3 Scott Gerhardt   11.65
#4 Shane Kolenosky   11.72
#5 Terry Lucky   11.77
#6 Taylor Jacek   11.78
#7 Marlin Krieger   11.78
#8 Dylan Konecsni   11.84
#9 Calvin Gordon   11.86
#10 Janssen Atten   11.92

Sorry Marlin you slipped a spot as young Taylor even though he ran the same ET as you, he had a higher mph and sneaks by you as I imagine you were out at the cabin instead of coming out to the track... Don Eliason has been out to a bunch of events but hasn't been able to get on the list as he still hasn't figured out how to slow down his Corvette enough to stay out of trouble. Just a reminder that just because you are not on the list, there is definitely a chance for you to be on the Real Street Top Ten list as there is a number of you guys that are in the low 12's that have already competed in a number of our events and will easily make the 4 events needed to compete where some of the guys have only been in one or two. So racers like Glen and Tamara Lund, Rod Oborowsky, Kylee Montour and others all have a shot as we head down to the end of the year. So as always the Street Legal staff and Performance Plus would like to thank you for coming out and see you next time.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten July 22nd, 2016

Here we are already at the 8th Performance Plus Street Legal Drags of the year. The summer seems to be just blowing by and the Real Street class is really picking up with plenty of cars running in the 11.5 to 12.0 range. I was wondering how close you could get to the 11.5 limit without going over, Sorry Scott we can not count your 11.494, well Jason Chilliak blasted off a 11.501 at 126 mph to slide into the #1 spot in his 1932 Ford Coupe banging gears like a madman. That puts 2 hot rods on the list as Marlin improved to an 11.78 in his 1934 Ford. Chris Spence returned with his sadly Chevy powered Mustang which is starting to show me a pattern of Chevy powered Fords that is keeping me up at night. Calvin Gordon got on to the Real Street list with help from his buddy Scott who is currently #4 on the Real Street list. Calvin runs a 505 Cu inch Mopar 1n his 1968 Plymouth Satellite. So here is how the list goes now.

#1 Jason Chilliak   11.50
#2 Tyler Smith   11.52
#3 Chrise Spence   11.54
#4 Scott Gerbhardt   11.65
#5 Shane Kolenosky   11.72
#6 Terry Lucky   11.77
#7 Marlin Krieger   11.78
#8 Dylan Konecsni   11.84
#9 Janssen Atten   11.92
#10 Calvin Gordon   11.93

It was nice to see Dylan Konecsni get his Mustang down into the 11's and I would like topoint out it does not have a chevy in it...We would like to thank all you guys for comingout and enjoy seeing all the different kinds of cars which makes coming out to watch sointeresting for us and your friends and families to watch. We are in the planning stages of setting up a cruise for everyone that has been on the Real Street list to participate in along with the Top Ten list guys in August and I am looking forward to that. Performance Plus and the Street Legal staff hope to see you at our next race.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten July 8th, 2016

The 6th Performance Plus Street Legal event went off with out any of the rain we had in the city making it out to the track. Left the city at 4 and it was hard to make it into the car without getting soaked and I thought  this would kill off the event. At my house I think I saw Noah loading animals into an Ark. As we got closer to the track it cleared off and we didn't get any other than a few drops. Still had 60 cars show up and take their turn at running down the track. we also had a number of motorcycles show up and there was a guy named Morespeed running his bike...I think maybe that was not his real name. I took my Fairmont for a few passes at the end of night and made some blistering 16 second passes with it and my neck is still sore...I had to quit running it at the end of the night as Skippy feared I might lose control of it as you can tell it is very fast or that leaked to much oil, I can't remember which one.

Anyway here is  your new Real Street Top Ten list.

 #1 Tyler Smith               11.52
#2 Chris Spence              11.54
#3 Scott Gerbhardt          11.65
#4 Shane Kolenosky       11.72
#5 Terry Lucky                 11.77
#6 Marlin Krieger           11.92
#7 Janssen Atten             11.92
#8 Steve Luk                  11.96
#9 Chad Giesbrecht        11.96
#10 Dylan Konecsni        11.96

There was not a whole lot of changes this week to the list but it shows how many quick cars are in the city's and towns around Saskatoon. I would like to mention that Tyler Smith a Street Legal regular has now moved into a well deserved #1 spot with his daily driver Mazda with LS power. I would like to remind you that
if you would like to compete in out Real Street Top Ten run off just make sure to  participate in at least 4 events or come talk to me at any of our events. As always thanks for coming out to our Performance Plus Street legal events.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten June 24th, 2016

The 5th Performance Plus Street Legal event turned out to be a great race night, It looked like we might get bad weather but it went right around us and when the cooler evening air came in it was a bonus for all the guys racing which paid off in quicker ET's. We had a lot off late model Mustang's, Camaro's and Challengers all in the mix with imports and muscle cars. The Real Street bump continued to drop and now the bump spot is 12.03. There are 3 guys tied in the 11.96 spot and  I decided the position by the best mph and Steve Luk in his 2014 Mustang get it by his 128 mph blast.

The current list sits like this.

 #1 Chris Spence              11.54
#2 Tyler Smith                11.55
#3  Scott Gerhardt          11.65
#4 Shane Kolenosky       11.72
#5 Terry Lucky               11.77
#6 Marlin Krieger           11.92
#7 Steve Luk                  11.96
#8 Chad Giesbrecht        11.96
#9 Dylan Konecsni         11.96
#10 Trevor Laprisse        12.03

New additions to the ever growing list of cars in this group is Shane Kolenosky in his 1994 Camaro SS with a 396 LS-1. We also had Terry Lucky who came down from Melville in his Dodge SRT-4 turbo and was able get the car down the track even though he had the slicks mounted on the wrong end of the car...

There was also the before mention Steve Luk who once he gets a little bit better on the old shifter has the potential to go a lot quicker. I would also like to mention Taylor Jacek who at only 16 years old driving his Dad's Trans Am for the second time at our street Legalevents went a 12.29 and was just outside of the real Street list, very cool.

Scott Gerhardt who is #3 on this List is also presently #10 on the Top Ten list and his biggest job every race is keeping on the good side of 11.50 so that he doesn't have to visit Skippy in the tower.

As always Thanks for coming out to our Performance Plus street legal events.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten June 10th, 2016

The 4th Performance Plus Street Legal was once again greeted with decent weather and we ended up with a good turn out despite all the other events happening in the city. The ET bump once again took a big drop from 12.58 the previous week to 12.19 this week. this puts Kylee in the #10 spot with his big block powered Dodge 1/2 ton. Once again I remind you that to take part in the year end run off you must participate in 4 races and both Marlin and Kylee have a head start on the group with both of them having participated in 3 events. We are planning to have a big street cruise with both the Real Street and Top Ten list getting together for a cruise through our fine city later this summer. The Real Street list now sits like this.

 #1   Chris Spence            11.54
#2   Scott Gerhardt         11.65
#3   Tyler Smith              11.72
#4   Marlin Krieger         11.95
#5   Chad Giesbrecht      11.96
#6   Dylan Konecsni       11.96
#7   Trevor Laprisse        12.03
#8   Tyson Durocher       12.04
#9    Kent Ashworth       12.15
#10  Kylee Montour       12.19

The 3 new additions to the list are Trevor Laprisse with his 383 SBC powered 1995 Sonoma,
Tyson Durocher who ran a lot of the street Legal events last year in his 2011 Chevy Camaro SS and Kent Ashworth right behind him in his 1998 Pontiac Trans Am. Its great to see the mix of cars as they range from American muscle cars to imports and high end sports cars. We even had  a group of a dozen cars show up, all buddies to take turns racing each other and hanging out.

This is great to see and glad to have you out racing at our track instead of out there on the streets. At the next event we may have our 1st woman to be on the Real Street list as TJ Friesen will be coming out with her 408 windsor powered Mustang to give you guys a run for your money.  Hope to see you out at our many Performance Plus street legal events this summer and Thanks for coming out.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten May 27th, 2016

The 3rd Performance Plus Street Legal race was greeted with good weather, just a little breezy but nice conditions for racing. The Real Street Top Ten list continues to change and the bump keeps dropping after every event with the slowest ET now being 12.58 from Stan Heiber and his Cadillac.

New additions to the list are Scott Gerhardt and his 1968 Cutlass who was #9 on last years Top Ten list and due to his 11.50 limit this is a perfect class for him and his car. Chad Giesbrecht and his 1980 Chevy pickup with nitrous earned a spot also. Rod Oborowsky and his 1970 Dart with a 408 small block joined also. We also had Marc Greenan and his 2014 Shelby step in with an impressive 124mph run. Marlin Krieger and his 1934 Ford gained another spot with his 1st 11 second run. The thing I find so cool about this is I know most of these guys through my involvement with the track and all of these cars are real street driven cars that are driven to the lake, on holidays and driven in from rural towns. So here is how the list sits now.

# 1 Chris Spence 11.54
#2 Scott Gerhardt    11.65
#3 Tyler Smith   11.72
#4 Marlin Krieger   11.95
#5 Chad Giesbrecht   11.96
#6 Marc Greenan   12.19
#7 Kylee Montour   12.19
#8 Glen Lund   12.33
#9 Rod Oborowsky   12.46
#10 Stan Heiber   12.58

Everyone was enjoying the newly paved track and return road and with the work on the pits everything is looking great out at SIR. as we wind up to what looks to be a great year. We the Street Legal volunteers and the guys from Performance Plus look forward to you coming out to our facility and enjoying your performance cars in a safe environment. A few other things I would like to mention. Stan Heiber and Andy McElwee were out with their cars which they will be running in the Top Ten list both running in the 9.3's and Rob Tangerman was in from Regina with his 1970 Duster which was running 9.7's at over 150mph, very cool.

Performance Plus Real Street Top Ten May 15th, 2016

So it begins another season of Performance Plus Street Legal drag racing. This year along with the Top Ten list we are running a class we are calling Real Street which is for the cars that run 11.50 and slower. We wanted to add this so that you guys with fast street cars that might not be ready for the Top Ten list can have their own list to run for.

The list will run from the beginning of the Street Legal race season and we will have a run off at the end of the year to see who is the quickest out of your group and this will establish your Top Ten list.
For our first Sunday race of the year the weather was great other than the usual Saskatchewan wind.
With a 71 car turnout and lots of time to run their cars there was a lot of passes for everyone to make.

So here how the Real Street shakes out at this point:
In #1 spot is Chris Spence in his 91 Ford Mustang that he accidentally got confused about and installed a BBC in where a Ford motor belongs.
#2 spot is filled by Tyler Smith in his LS1 powered Mazda RX7, both Tyler and Chris spent time on last years Top Ten list.
#3 is filled by a Street Legal drags regular participant Dylan Konecsni in his 2003 Mustang.
#4 goes to a Points race regular Kylee Montour in his 440 powered 1976 Dodge D100 pickup truck which he uses to haul non Dodge parts to the dump...
#5 is Glen Lund and his factory built 707hp Charger Hellcat and with his over 120mph run is what separated him from the #6 car of Marlin Krieger as they both had identical ET's of 12.337
#6 is the aforementioned Marlin Krieger in his Joe Sherman built SBC powered 1934 Ford that he has used to cruise out to his cabin on a number of occasions.
#7 is another Street Legal regular Stan Heiber in his 2016 Cadillac who was doing his best to wear the old pavement off the track before we get the new pavement put on in a few weeks.
#8 is another Street Legal regular Rob Graham and 1990 Mustang who had a little transmission trouble but got it fixed and was back making passes.
#9 is Sam Zang in a 2012 BMW X5M Twin Turbo with a factory rating of 555hp.
# 10 is Les Smith and his 2.2 1990 Chrysler Daytona and has been running this car out here for years and I think was his 1st times in the 12's which is very impressive.

#1  Chris Spence         11.54
#2  Tyler Smith          11.72
#3  Dylan Konecsni       12.06
#4  Kylee Montour         12.20
#5  Glen Lund            12.33
#6  Marlin Krieger       12.33
#7  Stan Heiber          12.58
#8  Rob Graham           12.71
#9  Sam Zang              12.79
#10 Les Smith             12.98
