The most recent list and editorials are at the the beginning, the very first street legal editorial is at the bottom. Enjoy and share this page around. July 6, Here we are half way through the season and the 6th Performance Plus Street Legal race is in the books. We were greeted with extremely hot weather and it was a cooker. It was a free spectator race and there was a real good turnout of fans and with our usual variety of cars there was something there for everyone to watch. Brad Chilliak and his Willy's has returned and everyone loves to watch his car as his combination of blower motor and 5spd make sure you don't know what it will do from pass to pass. We had some very fast street bikes that were pulling big mph at the top end a lot of real quick race cars were there to put on a show. Quick pass of the night was again Andy McElwee's Nova SS with a pass of 9.29 at 156mph. The Top Ten list made a bunch of changes as only half of the list cars showed up. Brian had engine trouble and was not able to repair it in time for the Friday night race so Andy moved up and had a race against Paul's GTX and Paul gave it his all but with Andy's 9.14 it was a done deal even though Paul ran his quickest time his car has ever run. I ran Leroy and his car was fighting him and I was able to stay ahead and took his spot. Rick is presently holding #1 spot and was MIA and Andy could have taken the #1 spot but said he would wait and race him for it as he didn't want to get the spot that way. Also missing were Jamie, Stan and Nolan and Janssen couldn't run as he had no exhaust on his car so we have a new addition to our list. Anita takes the #10 spot in her Barracuda and becomes the 1st women to be on our List. Aaron Timoffee was out making test runs with his Camaro and will be taking a shot at our list in the near future and Justin Heroux had his Cutlass out and said he will be coming for my spot in the near future and will be looking forward to pairing up with him but he is going to have to work for it...So as it sits #1 Rick, #2 Andy, #3 Paul, #4 Brian, #5 Steve, #6 Leroy, #7 Jamie, #8 Stan, #9 Anita, # 10 Nolan is now the gatekeeper. I would like to thank all our participants for coming out and from our Street Legal Committee and Performance Plus hope to see you and our spectators out at our upcoming events. So this is your Racemaster and now #5 signing off. June 23, 2017 So for the fifth Performance Plus Street Legal we ended up with definitely the best conditions for running quick as the wind went away and the air altitude factor was perfect for making power. We only had a few call outs for the Top Ten List but one that we have been looking forward to finally came to be. Andy and his nitrous Nova against Brian and his Mustang. It almost didn't happen as when Brian got to the track his fuel pump signed off. He was able to find one and with not much time left got his car up and running and after making a slippery test pass he was ready to take on Andy. Andy had run his car earlier and was having trouble getting all the power down and was also taking the long way down our track. They both staged on the Pro Tree and Andy wanted to cut a good light and left way to early and red lit, Brian seen him go and left on the red also but ran him down and won the race. Andy wanted a rematch but there were only a few minutes left and with Brian having a oil pressure issue with his Mustang the battle will have to be settled next Street Legal. Stan called me out and I had a driveshaft interference problem on the Falcon and didn't want to chance running him so now he has my spot. Paul was down with converter issues and Rick, Jamie and Leroy were also MIA and Nolan didn't show up till late in the evening so hopefully we have a better turnout next time as Chris and Anita are going to make a shot at getting on the list. So Janssen get your exhaust on the car as you may have some work ahead for you. As usual we had a lot of different cars out running everything from Hellcats, Gtr's, turbo 4 cyl cars, race cars and muscle cars and I would like also to thank those people that regularly come out and support us. We have a number of people that we see at our events time after time and they are the backbone of our program and to you I want to say our Street Legal Committee appreciate having you come out. A couple of cars I would like to mention that impressed me at this was the Procharged Mustang that made some passes, he wasn't very quick in the ET department but with a 127mph top end he obviously had lots of power to play with. I also liked the 6 cyl AMC station wagon that was running mid 13's, I am a big fan of different and this is not your normal car you turn into a performance car. Once again thanks from Performance Plus and our Street Legal committee for coming out and this is your Racemaster and now #8 signing off. June 9, 2017 Top Ten #1Rick Bell, #2 Paul Fehr, #3 Brian Stephenson, #4 Andy McElwee, #5 Jamie Marjoram, #6 Leroy Schmidt, #7 Steve Betker, #8 Stan Heiber, #9 Nolan Penner, Janssen Aten. For the fourth Performance Plus Street Legal race of 2017 the weatherman was on the fence as to the weather for the day with predictions for a thunderstorm looming I hopped into Shackey my shop truck and headed out. As I got to the city limit it absolutely poured and for the next 6 miles the windshield wipers were going full tilt so I was thinking that would be it for the evening. When I got to the track there had been no rain there and it was sunny. It obviously deterred a lot of people but we still had 44 cars that decided to take their chances and come out. We had a number of Top Ten cars come out for the 1st list race of the year and after 4 rounds of racing it really shook up last years list. Rick Bell and Paul Fehr are now #1 and # 2 as Brian was away at another car event and slid his 2 spots and now is # 3. I didn't have my car ready and Scott and Nolan were working so we let the guys race threw are spots and will have to work our way back up. Rick was able to stay ahead of Paul even after racing each other twice, even though Paul was quicker and faster Rick was hotter on the light. Jamie was able to climb from 8th to 5th as his car was working good and even spinning was running 10.6s at almost 132mph. Andy made the biggest charge as he came on to the list from the bottom and went right to #4 and with the quickest run of the evening at 8.99 nobody had anything for him. He is now waiting for his chance to take Brian on which will definitely happen at some point this year. Leroy was still figuring out his nitrous and was sad that he didn't get his chance at Nolan as that would have been a great race and that to will happen this year. Stan also came onto the list and went to #8 till his transmission said it was time to go but will back with it next time as he had it already fixed for the race on the weekend. Janssen also came back onto the list and sits at #10 as Scott gets bumped off the list. of the cars that came out it was the quickest group of cars in one evening of racing I have seen in a while. Rob Olbrich came from Regina with his Camaro and ran 9.24 with a car he street drives and there was a Charger from Lloydminister and was running 10.4s. Todd Nieszener with his Corvette Turbo that will be making a run for the list once he gets his exhaust figured out. Brent Stephens brought out his Hellcat as it wouldn't be a street legal race without one and the Lunds had theirs out also. From Performance Plus and the Street Legal committee Thanks for your support. So that is it for now from Racemaster and current #7. May 26, 2017 Current LIST starting June 9 is below and callouts can be made to stephen betker, his editorial of the may street legal is below as well. #1 Brian Stephenson #2 Rick Bell #3 Steve Betker #4 Paul Fehr #5 Nolan Penner #6 Trent Turner #7 Leroy Schmidt #8 Scott Gerhardt #9 Jaime Marjoram #10 Curtis Knops We are already into the 3rd Performance Plus Street Legal race of the year and was a much busier event as there was no rain threatening like the last race. Was are first Friday night race and as always a good mix of cars and a few Race cars thrown into the mix as well. Andy Mclwee was out with his Nova doing some test runs as he would like to make a run to the top of the Top Ten list later this summer if his work schedule permits it. With a best of 8.91 Brian may finally have someone to give him a run for his #1 spot. Rick Bell was also out testing and though he was fighting our nasty headwind was running in the 10.70's. Chris Kirchgessner had his Hellcat out and now is the quickest Hellcat to run at the track with a 10.85 and said he will take a shot at the Top Ten list also. Glen and Tamara Lund are switching to soft compound tires on their Charger Hellcat and with a 125 mph top end charge I imagine they will be in Top Ten territory also. Finally we will have some late model performance cars to shake up our list a bit, now if we could get some late model Mustangs and Camaro's that would be great. On the subject of the Top Ten list our race season starts next Friday night so get your cars ready and let me know if you want to move up so we can set up the races. Medicine Hat has a class that mirrors our Top ten list with rules similar to ours except they can run without exhaust... Maybe after they get their list set up of their quickest 10 cars we can set up something with them next year and run our guys against theirs, of course we will run exhaust as that what real street cars do...We had a few cars come in from Regina and a couple notables were Scott Fergusen in his 2016 2.0L VW that ran 12.27 and Shutan Chen in his 2015 C63 AMG that went 12.59, very good performance for stock vehicles. Brian wasn't out as he was preparing for his 25th anniversary event held on Saturday and our Street Legal committee say Congratulations to you and thank you for your support of our events. Also thanks to you racers and fans that come out and support our events and look foward to seeing you again. May 13, 2017 So for the second Performance Plus Street Legal we switched to a Saturday which was a first for us since we started the program. We did it so that everyone would have a chance to spend Sunday with their Mothers and not have our race interfere with Mothers Day. Once again rain and high winds loomed and at 10 AM I was watching it pour in the city as well as the wind blow the branches off my trees in the back yard and stuff blow off my deck, I thought our day was done. As has happened many times the weather in the city has no bearing on what happens at the track. I hopped into Shackey my work truck and headed out anyway. when I got there it was sunny and calm with a light breeze from the south and it ended up being a perfect race day. Do to the light car count there was plenty of time to make passes as Gilles Basque (38) passes and Tamara Lund (35) passes were out to beat TJ Friesen's previous record of 40 passes in one event. Had Gilles not stopped for that burger I think he could have done it. Sam Roberts in his new ride a 27 T altered and Brian Taylor in his 1981 Malibu both were out making passes to get their license for 10.0 and quicker. Jamie Marjoram was out again making passes in his Mustang and ran a best mph for his car at 133.91 showing that when the Top Ten cars start running for the year he will be climbing the list quite fast. Janssen Aten brought out his 1982 Camaro and with a new engine in it ran an 11.69 at 118.6 5mph which is better on motor than he ran last year with his nitrous. Bernie was back announcing as he had family business to take care of last week and on that note Thanks to Brian from Performance Plus for filling in for Bernie last week you did a good job for your first time doing that job. Well from your Street Legal committee and Performance Plus our sponsor Thanks to you racers and spectators who came out despite the weather.
2016 TOP 10 "Put Up or Shut Up" FASTEST STREET LEGAL
#1 Brian Stephenson 1983 Mustang #2 Rick Bell 1968 Camaro #3 Steve Betker 1964 Falcon #4 Paul Fehr #5 Nolan Penner #6 Trent Turner 1978 Malibu #7 Leroy Schmidt #8 Scott Gerhardt
#9 Jamie Marjoram 1989 Mustang #10 GATEKEEPER Curtis Knopps May 7, 2017 So begins the 2017 Performance Plus Street Legal drag racing season, turned out to be a great race day with very warm weather for our 1st race of the year. We had 74 cars turn out for the event with a diverse group of cars which our events are well known for. I will once again be tracking the ET's for our Real Street class for a year end run off of cars that run 11.50 and slower so if you have a car that runs between 11.50 and 12.50 and want to be part of this just let me know and I will add you to my List. We will once again be Running our Top Ten list starting Friday June 9th on a call out basis. This year there will be a Trophy for 1st place and for the guys that end up in the Top Ten positions at year end will be in for a draw for a 500 dollar gift certificate courtesy of Performance Plus. The top 3 cars will also be on next years Street legal poster even though it will be hard to unseat the good looking cars that were on this years poster...There were a few Top Ten cars out testing and it looks as we are going to have our work cut out for us this year as Jamie Marjoram ran a 10.35 at 131 and Paul Fehr ran a 10.44 at 128 which is a personal best for both drivers. Andy McElwee was out with his street driven Nova SS and ran some 8.90's with his 8.91 at 158mph being the quickest run of the day. He was hoping to have a grudge match against Brian Stephenson and his Mustang but after 15 years his fuel pump started leaking so it will have to be another day. Kris Kirchgessner became the quickest Hellcat owner to make a pass down our track running a 10.91 beating Jack Neufeld's old record of 11.0. Hoping to see some of these new cars running in our Top Ten list and giving our old cars a run for the money. I would also like to mention how well David Giesbrecht did with his Malibu race car, he has moved out of the Junior street program and will be running in the Pro class at points races and after 5 passes he was into the 10's which is pretty impressive for a 16 year old that had never driven a race car. We also had over 200 plus spectators out to watch and hope to see everyone out at our next events. Different this year we will be running our street legal event next Saturday so everyone can spend their mothers day with Mom. So Thanks from our Street Legal volunteers and Performance Plus to all the racers and spectators that came out and we will see you next time.
